How Length Conversion Works
All units are converted through a common base unit — the metre. The input value is first converted to metres using its factor, then converted from metres to the target unit. Formula: result = value × (fromFactor / toFactor).
Indian Length Units
India has a rich tradition of measurement units still used in daily life, especially in real estate and textiles:
- Gaj (गज): Equal to 1 yard (0.9144 m). Widely used in North Indian property dealings — plot sizes are often quoted in square gaj.
- Hath (हाथ): The cubit, roughly 18 inches (0.4572 m). Used in traditional cloth measurement. "Do hath kapda" literally means 2 cubits of fabric.
- Angul (अंगुल): A finger width, approximately 0.75 inches (0.01905 m). An ancient Vedic unit still referenced in architecture and Vastu Shastra.
